Każdy z nas przywykł do zwykłych kodów kreskowych. Są na każdym produkcie. Na praktycznie wszystkim co kupujemy, no może poza marchewką na bazarze. Jednak ich czas dobiega końca. Dlaczego? Ponieważ nie potrafią przenieść dużej ilości informacji. W zależności od typu kodu, można zapisać kilka lub kilkanaście cyfr – niektóre typy kodów kreskowych potrafią zapisać litery ale generalnie im więcej informacji tym las kresek dłuższy. Znowu im dłuższy tym większa szansa na zniszczenie takiego kodu na opakowaniu produktu. Od kilkunastu lat istnieją dwuwymiarowe kody kreskowe. Różnią się one nieco od tych 
znanych na co dzień. Jednak każdy spostrzegawczy człowiek mógł się z nimi spotkać. Zaczynają się pojawiać na niektórych 
fakturach, na spodach laptopów, czasem w magazynach i czasopismach – a wyglądają jak mozaika (po lewej – w standardzie DataMatrix lub QR Code po prawej). Jeśli posiadasz telefon marki Nokia to być może masz zainstalowany czytnik takich kodów a dokładniej aplikację, która używając wbudowanego w telefon aparatu potrafi odczytać magiczne kropeczki. Co więcej Nokia udostępniła również za darmo generator kodów (zarówno DataMatrix jak i QR)
Dlaczego te kody są lepsze? Ponieważ od początku projektowano je do przenoszenia większej ilości informacji w dodatku alfanumerycznej.
Do czego można je zastosować ???
Wyobraź sobie, że dostajesz wizytówkę na której z drugiej strony znajduje się zapisany adres WWW albo email. Czyż nie byłoby to dobre? Zamiast przyklepywać adres, wystarczy pokazać go komputerowi/komórce aby sobie odcyfrował. Jeśli chcę aby moje maile były podpisane cyfrowo, mogę umieścić w sieci mój klucz publiczny a na wizytówce zamieścić link do strony. Producenci wszelkich dóbr mogą w reklamach „nieklikanych” (telewizja, prasa, ulotki, bilbordy) zamieścić link do ich e-sklepu. Po sfotografowaniu a następnie otwarciu takiego „linku” można od razu zakupić towar. Czyż nie byłoby to ułatwienie? Takie zastosowania już są. Firma H&M już oferuje takie usługi.

Nie wierzysz w przyszłość takich kodów? Firma Google również zaangażowała się w tą technologię i oferuje reklamy – Google Ads a raczej Print Ads.
Oczywiście pojawiają się również głosy obnażające niedoskonałości technologii. Telefon, którym „czytamy” kod musi chwilę przeanalizować obraz, samo uchwycenie prawidłowego kadru też zabiera czas, czasem krótkie adresy szybciej wklepiemy ręcznie niż przez kod kropkowy (??) – jednak proponowane w powyższym artykule RFID jest mniej rozpowszechnione niż kody kropkowe i ciągle dużo droższe w porównaniu do ceny wydruku kodu kreskowego czy kropkowego.
Ja, osobiście chciałbym aby drukowane karty zasileń do telefonów „na kartę” oprócz kodu w postaci cyferek miały obok kod zapisany w postaci kropek, dzięki czemu zamiast stukać wystarczyłoby zrobić fotkę coś na kształt proponowanych przez mPay płatności. Czyż zamiast klepać *123*12345678901234# nie byłoby szybciej zadzwonić pod numer:

Widzę jeden problem z fotografowaniem kodu kropkowego telefonem komórkowym i przetwarzaniem przez oprogramowanie telefonu. Komórki mają krótką ogniskową i z bliska dają nieostry rozmyty obraz, a z daleka gdy z kolei jest ostrość to obrazek kodu liczony w pixelach jest mały i nie zapewnia dobrego rozpoznawania. Dodatkowo jeśli obraz jest łapany na skos to oprogramowanie musi to skompensować i obrócić obraz oraz likwidować efekt trapezu co dalej pogarsza jego jakość.

To wszystko co napisałeś Romku to prawda, jednak kody kropkowe są bardziej odporne na problemy o których mówisz niż np. zwykłe kody kreskowe (i dlatego znajdują coraz więcej zastosowań). Dodatkowo na chwilę obecną najbardziej rozpowszechnione są chyba w Japonii (o czym postaram się napisać w wolnej chwili) gdzie przeciętne telefony komórkowe są bardziej zaawansowane niż u nas. W Polsce ciągle jeszcze wiele telefonów maja rozdzielczość < 1M a jakość ich zdjęć jest co najmniej słaba. Przy większych rozdzielczościach nawet rozmyty obraz będzie łatwiejszy do obróbki. Komórka musi jedynie sprawdzić czy w danym obszarze ma pole czarne czy białe, to wystarczy. Przeprowadzałem eksperymenty z kamerą internetową o rozdzielczości 320×280 pix (jakość obrazu nie lepsza niż w większości telefonów) i markery dla AR-Toolkita rozpoznawała świetnie a tam nie ma tak silni zdefiniowanej struktury, kształty mogą być dowolne.

Nie sądzę żeby kody kreskowe odeszły do lamusa. Są świetne jeśli chodzi o zapisanie numeru seryjnego o niewielkich rozmiarach, a takich zastosowań na pewno nie będzie brakowało. Dodatkowo są bardziej odporne na zniszczenie dołu kodu.
A jeśli chodzi o obraz pochylony i dodatkową jego obróbkę, a co za tym idzie dłuższy czas wykonywania programu, to można to sobie podarować… Czy nie widzieliście jak „pani w kasie macha produktem przed czytnikiem”? Nie jest to dla niej bardzo uciążliwe a zmusza do ustawienia kodu w odpowiednim położeniu. Nie sądzicie że to nieco prostsze rozwiązanie?

Jeśli chodzi o ilość przechowywanych danych to kody 2D (kropkowe) na tej samej powierzchni potrafią „przechowywać” więcej informacji niż zwykłe kreskowe. Jeśli chodzi o machanie w kasie
to problem polega na sposobie odczytu, kod kreskowy powinien być nieruchomy. Wiązka laserowa przesuwając się po kodzie sprawdza szerokości pasków białych i czarnych – ruszanie kodem może ten pomiar dość łatwo zafałszować szczególnie jeśli kodem ruszamy poziomo (efekt podobny do efektu Dopplera).
jestem bardzo Ciekaw jakie kody tam znajdziesz.
Wykonanie zdjęcia kodu 2D to ułamek sekundy a przy dzisiejszej mocy obliczeniowej procesorów obróbka nie powinna stanowić problemu. Jasne wiem o tym że na telefonach korkowych znajdują się kody 2d a najczęściej DATAMATRIX.
Nie sądzę jednak żeby wyparły kody kreskowe z ich zastosowań. Będą używane do nowych zadań

Będą używane do nowych zadań, z pewnością. Z dużą dozą prawdopodobieństwa jednak mogę założyć, że za 20-30 lat kodów kreskowych nie będzie zostaną wyparte przez albo 2D albo RFID albo jeszcze coś nowszego i „lepszego”
